Prescience Media: Luke Brown produced a superb final round to win the Blu Label Unlimited Challenge at Lost City Golf Course on Saturday, securing his second Sunshine Tour title of the season.

Brown scored 20 points in the final round to finish on 42 points, two ahead of runner up Tyran Snyders.

Starting the day tied for 14th, 16 points behind overnight leader Snyders, Brown made the most of the tournament’s modified Stableford format to climb the leaderboard and claim victory.

“I thought it was a long shot this morning, but I guess this format plays into that. You don’t have to be as close as you would in stroke play,” Brown said.

“Kudos to Blu Label. You always put on a fun tournament.”

The victory was Brown’s third Sunshine Tour title and his second this season, following his win at the Sunbet Challenge Time Square in August.

After scoring in single digits during each of the first three rounds, Brown found another gear on Saturday. An eagle on the fourth hole proved a key moment in his charge towards the title.

“I think my eagle on the fourth hole definitely got me going. I played well in the first three rounds, but there was no real spark. That eagle clicked everything into gear,” he said.

Brown also pointed to a difficult hole earlier in the round as an important moment. After a poor tee shot on the second left him behind a tree, his attempt to play out of trouble took an unexpected turn.

“I didn’t hit a great tee shot and ended up behind a tree. I tried to chop it out, with rocks and roots there, and it actually went between my legs. I still had to chop it out. I made a great bogey. Some would say that was the momentum bogey of the round,” he said.

Lyle Rowe, the 2021 Blu Label Unlimited Challenge champion, finished third on 38 points.

Vuyani Mzimkhulu received the Sunshine Tour caddie medallion as the winning caddie of the tournament.
